Textual Analysis Of - Cosmopolitan Magazine

'Cosmopolitan' is typically aimed at the female audience, this can be seen clearly through the colours used on the front cover, purple and yellow are seen as being feminine.
The image used is that of 'Kristen Bell' whos an actress, at the time of this issues publication she had just released a fil 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' and is becoming well-known. The image itself appears infront of the masthead this gives the impression that the magazine is popular and having the name fully visible isn't required.
The cover states that its 'The sexy issue' and 'when your boobs act weird' this again gives the feeling that its a female audience and thats who the magazine is directed at.
The font styles used are very big, bold and stand out against the coloured background used, this draws the audiences attention to them.
The magazine clearly targets women and their problems, the magazine gives advise and tips on what could make their problems better.

Textual Analysis Of - Kerrang Magazine

'Kerrang' is a music magazine which is typically aimed at 15-19 year old's who are interested in rock, punk, grunge and or indie music, you can tell this because of the bands which appear on the front cover of the magazine.
The title 'Kerrang' is placed behind the main image, this gives the impression that the audience not being able to see the title doesn't really matter because its that iconic you can tell what the magazine is anyway. The slogan 'life is loud' is also partially behind the main image this gives the sense of what type of bands are going to be seen inside this magazine. The strap line at the top of the magazine.
The main image is of 'Matt from the band Muse' the image is set at a gig, with him playing the guitar, the background is very dark with green lighting giving him a slight glow, hes wearing bright red which stands out against the dark background his expression is serious which also shows what type of music this magazine deals with.
Other images are set down the left-hand side of the magazine for well known bands such as 'Green Day, My Chemical Romance and Bullet For My Valentine' these images show what music will appear inside the magazine, these bands may also be the winners of something, but the readers are left wondering what this is in doing this it gives people a reason to want to buy the magazine.

Textual Analysis Of - Empire Film magaizine

'Empire' is a film magaizine that gives the audience info on the new films released, it also reviews them and gives the audience feedback.
The Title 'EMPIRE' is in big bold lettering, its also bright red which stands out against the blue background although it is in front of the main image this gives the sense that the title of the magazine is important. There's aslo a strapline that tells the reader that this particular issue is an 'Amazing Sci-Fi special edition' this relates to the image. The image is of the new Star Trek movie, the image dominates the front cover. The actors that have been used to promote the movie are all ready well known, 'Spock played by Zachary Quinto whose previously stared in Heroes as the bad guy Sylar' and 'Kirk played by Chris Pine who stared alongside actors such as Alan Rickman and Christian Bale'

A Textual Analysis Of "Secondary Teachers Magaizine"

There are stories running across the top of the page that are relevent to the magazines target audience.
The title of the magaizne tells us its target audience, its aimed at 'teachers who teach secondary school'.
The style of text used is modern and what you would expect school pupils to use (wordart).
The image used shows two school pupils sat on a changing room bench with the tag line 'Playing to learn' the pupils themselves are both male of different races this bringing thenm closer together. Hanging behind them are two football shirts in the colours of Arsenal, on the backs of the shirts they say 'Numeracy' and 'literacy' this shows the importance of education, and though sports seems to be the main emphasis this shows that there are other things important in education.

Foundation Portfolio - Preliminary Task

For our preliminary task we were asked to produce a Wyke college magazine, in order to do this however we were required to look at key concepts within the media. These concepts form the acronym LIIAR... These concepts are...
  • Language
  • Institution
  • Ideology
  • Audience
  • Representation

L - Language - In this case is the layout of the magazine, the font, style, size and colour of the text used, the photograph whether its colour or black and white, the masthead, the colours incorporated into the magazine.

I - Institution - Wyke college,us as the students of Wyke college.

I - Ideology - The message produced within the magazine, the message I'm trying to put across to the audience. The message has to be relevant to the subject with-in the magazine. Wyke is an academic college.

A - Audience - Who the product is produced for. The primary target audience in this case is Wyke students aged between 16 and 19, from data I have collated it also would be appropriate to aim it at females in the age range I have chosen since Wyke college is 64% female and 36% male. For a secondary audience I will aim it at teachers at the college and parents of students who attend the college, also anyone who may be interested in joining the college and looking for what activites the college do. I could also look into the different social groups and the topics in which they may be interested in.

R - Representation - In this case is how the product represents the college, how the photograph achieves this, the angles which are used, how the colours compliment the rest of the magazine. Using a unique style to draw the target audience's attention.
